Battle of Andernach

The Battle of Andernach took place on 2 October 939 in the town of Andernach along the Rhine river. It was fought between the followers of King Otto I of Germany and a group of rebel princes who opposed his rule.

Duke Eberhard of Franconia and Duke Gilbert of Lorraine led the rebels, but they were defeated badly in the battle. Eberhard was killed, and Gilbert drowned while trying to escape across the river.

The battle ended a large rebellion against Otto I, strengthening his power as king and bringing peace to the kingdom for a time.
