Bhisho

Bhisho, formerly known as Bisho, is the capital city of the Eastern Cape province in South Africa. It is an important place for government work, with the Office of the Premier and the Provincial Legislature located there, along with many other government offices.
The town is very close to another place called Qonce, just three kilometres away, and it is also about 70 kilometres from a bigger city named East London. Bhisho is part of a larger area known as Buffalo City, which includes several towns and cities close together.
History
Bhisho gets its name from the Xhosa word for buffalo, which is also the name of the Buffalo River nearby. The town was named after a song by Ben Tyazashe, who wrote about missing his home called Bisho, which refers to King William's Town. Some believe the name was created by Ciskei leader Lennox Sebe.
When the area known as Ciskei was given independence in 1981 (though not recognized outside South Africa), Bisho became its capital. During this time, the town grew quickly. In 1983, Bisho formed a partnership with a place in the West Bank, leading to new buildings and businesses.
After South Africa's first democratic elections in 1994, Bisho became part of the country again. Later that year, it was chosen as the capital of the Eastern Cape because of its good roads and space for growth. In 2004, the government changed the spelling from Bisho to Bhisho.
Bhisho today
Bhisho has many important buildings, such as government offices for the Eastern Cape, a hospital, a stadium, and a radio station. It also has a branch of the University of Fort Hare. Many people in Bhisho work for the government. The town relies on the nearby places Qonce and East London for many things.
Climate
Bhisho's weather is classified as cool semi-arid, which means it has dry conditions with mild temperatures. However, its climate is close to both a hot semi-arid climate and a humid subtropical climate, where summers are warm and winters are mild.
Notable people
Bhisho is the hometown of some talented individuals. Ma Nala, born in 1994, is a singer and songwriter. Masande Ntshanga, born in 1986, is known for his work as a novelist.
