The brass section is an important part of many musical groups, such as the orchestra, concert band, and jazz ensemble. It is made up of instruments that are played by blowing into them, like trumpets and trombones. These instruments create bright and powerful sounds that add excitement to music.

In a British-style brass band, the music comes only from the brass section and percussion instruments, without any strings or voices. This makes the sound very different from other types of bands.

All brass instruments are grouped together using a special system called Hornbostel-Sachs classification, which helps organize musical instruments. They all fall under the number 423, which means they are brass instruments. This shows how these instruments are related and why they are played together in ensembles.

Orchestra

The brass section of an orchestra usually includes several types of instruments. Concert band

The brass section of a concert band is usually bigger and more varied than the brass section of an orchestra. It typically includes:

Sometimes, but very rarely, a concert band might also use instruments like the Flugelhorn, Tenor (alto) Horn, Piccolo trumpet, Bass trumpet, Wagner tuba, Alto trombone, and Contrabass trombone.
