Canada at the 1928 Winter Olympics

Canada competed at the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland. This was one of the first times Canada took part in the Winter Olympic Games, and they have been part of every Winter Olympics since then.

The Canadian Olympic Committee chose W. A. Hewitt to lead the team as head of mission. He helped organize travel for the group, which included athletes in sports like figure skating, speed skating, skiing, and ice hockey. In total, there were 47 people in the Canadian team, including Hewitt.

The team traveled by ship from Halifax on the SS Arabic to Cherbourg, and then went on to St. Moritz for the Olympics. After the games ended, they sailed back to Canada on the SS Celtic.

Medalists

Canada took part in the 1928 Winter Olympics held in St. Moritz, Switzerland. This was one of the many times Canada has joined the Winter Olympic Games. The athletes from Canada competed in various snowy and icy sports, and some of them brought home medals for their country.

In the 1928 Winter Olympics held in St. Moritz, Switzerland, figure skating had events for men, women, and pairs. The competitions showed the skill and grace of the athletes from many countries, including Canada.

Ice hockey

The team from the University of Toronto Graduates was chosen to represent Canada in ice hockey at the 1928 Winter Olympics. Although their coach, Conn Smythe, could not go because he disagreed with some of the players chosen, the team played well. They won all their games, scoring 38 goals and not letting any goals in, which earned them the gold medal.

The best teams from each group, along with Canada, played a special round to decide the medals.

Nordic combined

In the 1928 Winter Olympics, athletes competed in two main events for Nordic combined: 18 km cross-country skiing and normal hill ski jumping. The cross-country skiing part was shared with another event, so some athletes took part in both. Not all athletes did this because each country could only send a certain number of players per event.
