A train arriving at a train station in Spain.

Cercanías Zaragoza is the name for the commuter train service run by Renfe in and around the city of Zaragoza, in Aragon, Spain. It helps people travel quickly and easily around the city and nearby areas. Right now, there is one line called the C-1. This line goes from Zaragoza-Miraflores station to Casetas. Trains on this line run once an hour when it is not very busy, and more often during rush hour when many people are traveling to work or school. Plans are being made for a second Cercanías line and to add more stations to the existing line, which will make it even easier for people to get around the area.

Line C1

Train arriving at Casetas station

The C1 line runs from Casetas to Miraflores and has four stops, including the main station Zaragoza Delicias. It is the only line in the system.

  • Casetas: the first station of the line. Casetas is a neighborhood of Zaragoza, about 10 km from the city center. About 15,000 people live there.
Utebo station
  • Utebo: one of the busiest stations on the line. The station is in the center of Utebo, a town close to Zaragoza.

  • Zaragoza-Delicias: the main railway station in the city. It is a key stop for long-distance and high-speed trains. It is located in Delicias, the most populated area of the city.

  • Zaragoza-Portillo: the second stop in the city. It used to be the biggest station in the city but is now underground. Some national trains stop here.

  • Zaragoza-Goya: the second most important station in the city and the busiest on this line. It is in the city center and connects to the tram system, helping tourists get around. It is also underground, with a modern entrance on a major avenue.

  • Miraflores: the last station on the line. It is on the left side of the city, near the Príncipe Felipe stadium.

Frequency

The trains on this line run once an hour. During busy times, like early morning and late afternoon, trains come every 30 minutes with an extra train added. Since the Zaragoza-Goya station opened, passengers on regional trains can also use the C1 line.

Statistics

Since 2012, the number of passengers on the train service has grown by 44%. This increase happened especially after the Zaragoza-Goya station opened, which connects to the Zaragoza tram. In that year, 343,000 people used the train line. On average, each train carried about 23 passengers, which is a small number compared to other city train networks.

Line C2

In 2017, the government of Aragon suggested adding a second train line. This new line would start from the N-IIa highway and go to Miguel Servet street. From there, it would split into two parts: one going to Compromiso de Caspe/c/Rodrigo Rebolledo and the other to San Jose Avenue/Paseo del Canal. This line would also include a tram system, similar to the one in Alicante.
