Cody Vasut

Cody Thane Vasut (born August 13, 1987) is an American politician. He has represented the 25th District in the Texas House of Representatives since 2021. A member of the Republican Party, Vasut also works as an attorney. His role in the Texas House allows him to help make important decisions for the people living in his district. As an attorney and a politician, Vasut works to support laws and policies that he believes will benefit his community.
Early life, education, and career
Cody Vasut was born in Houston to John and Pella Vasut. He grew up in Brazoria County, Texas and graduated from Angleton High School. He then attended Texas A&M University, where he earned a BBA and a MS in Management. During his time there, he served as the 37th speaker of the Texas A&M student senate. Later, he received his Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center in 2012.
Career
Cody Vasut worked as an associate attorney for BakerHostetler in Houston from 2012 to 2022. He served as a councilmember for the city of Angleton from May 2016 to May 2020. During this time, he helped lower property taxes and introduced prayer into city meetings.
Vasut ran for the Texas House of Representatives District 25 seat in 2020 after the current holder announced he would not run again. Vasut won the election with 71% of the vote in November 2020. He is known as one of the most conservative members of the Texas House and belongs to the Texas Freedom Caucus. In 2022, he proposed a bill to help parents pay for private school tuition. In 2023, he helped allocate funds to support certain centers. He also took part in a special role in a major state trial that year. In August 2025, he became chairman of a committee handling redistricting for Texas.
