Corno da tirarsi

The corno da tirarsi ("pull horn") is a special kind of brass instrument from the old days. It was used during the Baroque time, a period known for its beautiful music. Famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach wrote music for this instrument when he worked in Leipzig. A talented musician named Gottfried Reiche probably played the corno da tirarsi for Bach.

Bach used the corno da tirarsi in some of his church songs called cantatas. It appears in four of his works, but it is only named in three of them. These are BWV, and . Even though Bach wrote for it, we do not really know much about the instrument beyond his music. There are no surviving examples of the corno da tirarsi, and no records or pictures of it exist except in Bach's compositions.

People argue about what the corno da tirarsi looked like. Some think it was a type of horn with a special sliding part on it. Others believe it might have been similar to a slide trumpet. Even though we do not have the instrument today, Bach's music gives us clues about how it sounded and how it was used.
