Dartmoor School
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
Dartmoor School is an independent school that offers one-to-one education. It has four campuses in the Puget Sound region, located in Bellevue, Issaquah, Seattle, and Bothell. The school was founded in 1990 by Doris J. Bower, a reading specialist, who wanted to help students who needed special support with reading.
At first, Dartmoor School focused only on helping students improve their reading skills. Over time, more students wanted to take classes for school credit and eventually graduate from Dartmoor. This led to the school becoming fully accredited and changing from a learning center into a full independent school in the early 1990s. The school’s special way of teaching with one teacher for each student helped many learners succeed.
