History and trading
The De'Longhi company started in 1902 when the De'Longhi family created a small workshop to make parts for machines. It became an official company in 1950. At first, it mainly made portable heaters and air conditioners. Over time, it grew to make many kinds of small home appliances, like tools for cooking, cleaning, and ironing.
Products
De'Longhi is famous for its Artista Series espresso machines, its gelato maker, and the Pinguino portable air conditioner.
The company is also known for the stylish design of its products. In 2007, its Esclusivo line of kitchen appliances won the Red Dot design award. In 2000, De'Longhi bought Climaveneta S.p.A. and DLRadiators, which helped the company enter the market for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration.
Merger and acquisitions
De'Longhi bought a British appliance maker called Kenwood in 2001 for about $66.7 million. This helped the company use Kenwood's factory in China to make products, while design and engineering stayed in Italy.
In 2006, De'Longhi bought most of RC Group, a company that makes cooling systems for data centers, which helped it grow in that market. De'Longhi has factories and offices in many countries, selling products in 75 places around the world. In 2010, its sales reached over €1.63 billion.
In 2012, De'Longhi created a new group called DeLclima. The same year, De'Longhi bought the right to make small appliances under the Braun brand from Procter & Gamble. In 2018, De'Longhi worked with a company in India to sell kitchen appliances there. In 2020, De'Longhi bought another company that makes mixers for 420 million euros.
Public trading
Shares in the company are sold on Milan's stock exchange with the symbol DLG. The company's money from sales has grown a lot, almost doubling since 2014. In 2022, the company made €3,160,000,000.
In October 2017, five De'Longhi dehumidifiers got a special seal from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America and Allergy Standards Limited. This seal means these dehumidifiers are good for people with asthma and allergies. They were the first dehumidifiers to get this mark.
Controversies
De'Longhi received criticism for keeping its business running in Russia after the country invaded Ukraine in 2022. Even though the company stopped new investments and development in March 2022, it kept its existing operations, including a factory in Tatarstan. Reports said that some home appliances made for Ukraine were sent to Russia and sold in stores and online shops. De'Longhi’s website for Russia stayed active, and the company continued to post job openings and ads on places like YouTube. This led to more questions about why the company kept working in Russia.
