Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
Earle Elmer Meadows (June 29, 1913 – November 11, 1992) was an American pole vaulter who won a gold medal at the 1936 Olympics. His amazing jump was even shown in Leni Riefenstahl's famous film Olympia.
Meadows had a great rivalry with his teammate, Bill Sefton, from the University of Southern California. Together, they won important titles and set new world records for pole vaulting in 1937. Meadows went on to set more records indoors in 1941.
After his sports career ended, Meadows started a business selling musical instruments in Texas. Many years later, in 2016, he was honored by being added to the Texas Track and Field Coaches Hall of Fame.
