Finnish hip-hop

Finnish hip-hop, also known as rap, is a kind of music that comes from Finland. It is part of the larger hip-hop music style, but it is special because the words, called rapping, are mostly in Finnish. Many rappers use words from Helsinki slang and other Finnish dialects to make their music more interesting.

In the early 1980s, some Finnish rap songs were made, but they didn’t become very popular until the 2000s. The first Finnish rap song was "I'm Young, Beautiful and Natural" in English, made by an artist named General Njassa in 1983. In 1990, groups like Raptori and artists like Nikke T made rap music in Finnish that became very popular in Finland. Their style was different from American rap because it was influenced by dance-pop music from the 1980s and was often funny. Later rappers didn’t always like this style, but it helped start Finnish hip-hop.

There are many popular rap artists and groups in Finland. Some well-known names include Eevil Stöö, Mikael Gabriel, JVG, and Gettomasa. Others you might have heard of are Cheek, Uniikki, and Teflon Brothers.

In addition to these famous artists, there are many others who are popular within smaller circles. Some of these include Amoc, Notkea Rotta, and Steen1. These musicians help make Finnish hip-hop a lively and diverse part of the country's music scene.
