Flag of Andorra
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
The national flag of Andorra (Bandera d'Andorra) is a special symbol that represents the country. It shows three vertical stripes in blue, yellow, and red. In the middle of the yellow stripe is the coat of arms of Andorra, which includes elements that tell the story of the country's history and values.
The design of the flag without the coat of arms was first created in 1866. Over many years, there were many different versions of the flag with different designs and sometimes even horizontal stripes. But in 1993, after Andorra joined the United Nations, the flag design was made official and has stayed the same ever since. Today, it is a proud symbol of the nation and its people.
Origins and symbolism
The flag of Andorra has a design that connects to the flags of Catalonia, Foix, and France. In the middle of the flag is the coat of arms of Andorra, which includes symbols important to the Catholic bishop of Urgell, the Count of Foix, the Principality of Catalonia, and the Viscounty of Béarn. The words in the coat of arms, Virtus Unita Fortior, mean "Virtue United is Stronger". The colors of the flag, blue and red, are also used on the French flag, while red and yellow are colors found on the Catalonian flag.
Description
The flag of Andorra is a vertical tricolor with three vertical stripes of blue, yellow, and red. In the center of the flag is the coat of arms of Andorra. The yellow stripe in the middle is slightly wider than the blue stripes on either side. This design has been used since 1866 for the civilian version of the flag.
The official colors of the Andorran flag were defined in 1999 by the government of Andorra. These colors are carefully regulated to ensure the flag looks the same everywhere it is used.
History
The flag of Andorra has changed over time. In 1866, a new flag was created with vertical blue, yellow, and red stripes. This design was influenced by Napoleon III and represented France.
Later, a horizontal version of the flag was used, but its history is unclear. By around 1939, the vertical design returned with the coat of arms added in the center. The flag was officially standardized in 1993 when Andorra joined the United Nations.

There are also special flags used for other purposes beyond the national flag, such as for sports events or celebrations. These flags might carry different symbols or designs to match the occasion, making Andorra's flag traditions rich and diverse.
