The Flathead Valley is a region located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Montana. It includes parts of Flathead County and Lake County. Some important towns in the area are Kalispell, Bigfork, Columbia Falls, Polson, Ronan, and St. Ignatius.
The geography of the Flathead Valley is shaped by the valley where Flathead Lake is found, with two main parts β the northern (or upper) and southern (lower) Flathead Valley. The area is known for its beautiful lakes, including Flathead and Whitefish lakes.
Because of its natural beauty, the Flathead Valley is a popular place for visitors. It is close to famous spots like Glacier National Park, Whitefish Mountain Resort, and Blacktail Mountain Ski Area. People enjoy many outdoor activities here, such as hiking, backpacking, boating, rafting, canoeing, skiing, hunting, and fly fishing.
The lower part of the Flathead Valley and the southern half of Flathead Lake are inside the Flathead Indian Reservation. This area includes the historic St. Ignatius Mission, which was founded in 1854. Recently, the valley has been growing, but there isnβt enough housing for everyone.
