The Fourth and Madison Building (formerly the IDX Tower) is a 40-story skyscraper in downtown Seattle, Washington. It is located at 925 Fourth Avenue, right where it meets Madison Street. When it was finished in 2002, this modern-looking tall building became an important landmark because it was the first in Seattle to rise higher than 500 feet (150 meters) in more than ten years.
In 2007, the Fourth and Madison Building received a special award called the BOMA International Office Building of the Year Award. This award is given to buildings that are well-managed and well-used, especially those that are between 500,000 and 1,000,000 square feet (46,000โ93,000 square meters) in size.
One special feature of the building is its rooftop garden on the seventh floor. This garden is a privately owned public open space (POPOS), which means people can enjoy this green area even though it is part of a private building. Building the foundation was tricky because workers had to build around the Great Northern Tunnel and the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel. The building also extends out, or cantilevers, about 12 feet (3.7 meters) over the Downtown YMCA, making it look even taller.
