Friedrichshain Photo Gallery

The Friedrichshain Photo Gallery (German: Fotogalerie Friedrichshain) is the oldest communal photo gallery in Berlin. Founded in 1985, it was the first gallery in the GDR to focus only on photography. Today, it is located at Helsingforser Platz 1 in Berlin-Friedrichshain, close to the Warschauer Straße S-train station, and has been run since 2002 by Kulturring in Berlin eV. The gallery mainly shows work that tells stories about everyday life and communities.

In August 2015, the Friedrichshain Photo Gallery celebrated thirty years of showing photographs. Many photographers who have helped shape the gallery were there, and co-founder Ralf Herzig returned to the gallery for the first time. It was a special moment to look back on all the work done over the years.

Selected artists

The Friedrichshain Photo Gallery has shown works by many famous photographers. Some of the artists include Cecil Beaton, Sibylle Bergemann, Imogen Cunningham, Harald Hauswald, Ute Mahler, Roger Melis, Tina Modotti, Helga Paris, Gordon Parks, Richard Peter, Evelyn Richter, Sebastião Salgado, and Jindřich Štreit. Other artists featured include Dietmar Bührer, Arno Fischer, Eugen Heilig, Sven Marquardt, Rudolf Schäfer, Eva Siao, and Willy Römer.
