The Genoa urban railway service helps people travel around the city of Genoa. It is run by a company called Trenitalia. This railway makes it easier for people to move quickly and safely from one place to another in Genoa. Many people use it every day to get to work, school, or visit friends and family.

History

The urban railway service in Genoa began in 1964, run by Ferrovie dello Stato. It was the second such service after the "metropolitana FS" in Naples.

The railway used special trains called ALe 803 for daily travel. In 1976, these were replaced by newer trains, the ALe 801/940. To help with crowded trains between Sampierdarena and Brignole, a new route was built and opened in 1993, adding a station at Piazza Principe. Over the years, new stops like Costa di Sestri Ponente, San Biagio, and Via di Francia were added, and an old station was replaced in 2006.
