Grass

Grass refers to various families of plants. The three major families of grasslike plants are true grasses (Poaceae), sedges (Cyperaceae), and rushes (Juncaceae). Lawns and pasturelands are usually made of true grasses, and five of these grasses cover a big part of the world's arable land: rice, wheat, maize, barley, and sugar cane.
The word "grass" comes from an old language root meaning "to grow." Grass can also mean a green area like a lawn, park, or field. People often use these spaces for fun activities or sports such as lawn tennis or bowls. Since the 1970s, some sports places have used artificial grass to save on upkeep.
There is also an internet meme about being afraid of grass, which is a funny way to talk about not spending time outside in nature.
In popular culture
GRASS was a computer language named after a group of plants called Poaceae. It worked much like another language called BASIC but included special commands to create animations on a screen over time.
