Greenland plate

Adapted from Wikipedia ยท Discoverer experience

The Greenland plate is a small tectonic piece of Earth's surface surrounded by special areas like Nares Strait to the west and the Mid-Atlantic Ridge to the southeast. It includes the Greenland craton, which has some of the oldest rocks we know, like those in the Isua greenstone belt, dating back nearly 4 billion years.

Greenland was once part of the North American continent but moved away in two big steps during a very old time called the Cretaceous period. This created areas like Baffin Bay. Even though Greenland now moves mostly with North America, the space between Greenland and nearby islands still shakes with earthquakes, like a big one in 1933. Scientists are still learning why these shakes happen there.
