Portrait of Gregory Wyler, an American entrepreneur.

Gregory Thane Wyler was an American tech entrepreneur, engineer, and inventor. He was best known for founding two important technology companies. He created OneWeb, a company focused on building a global internet network using satellites in space. He was also the founder of O3b Networks, another company that worked on similar satellite internet projects. Wyler’s work helped bring internet access to places that had very little or no connection before, making the internet more available around the world.

Business ventures

Greg Wyler spent time helping people in Africa get better communication services. He worked for four years to connect schools and homes to the Internet, even in places far from cities. In 2006, his company Terracom took control of Rwandatel, but the government of Rwanda bought it back a year later.

In 2007, Wyler started a company called O3b Networks, Ltd.. He wanted to use satellites to bring phone and Internet services to places that were hard to reach. This idea came from his work in Rwanda, where he tried to help rebuild communication after a difficult time. O3b Networks launched 12 satellites into space.

In 2012, Wyler created another company named OneWeb. Its goal was to make sure everyone in the world could use the Internet. Later, in 2016, a bigger company called SES S.A. took over O3b Networks. In 2020, OneWeb faced money problems and had to pause its work, and Wyler left the company. In 2021, he started a new company called E-Space to help governments and businesses with satellite services.

Relationship with Jeffrey Epstein

In January 2026, newly released documents showed that Gregory Wyler had a business and social connection with an adult who wanted to hurt children, Jeffrey Epstein. Wyler confirmed the documents were accurate but stated that all his meetings with Epstein were professional. They talked about possible investments, but no actual investment ever happened. Wyler never accepted any offers or support from Epstein for any company he was involved with.

The documents showed that Wyler corresponded and met with Epstein many times. Epstein also gave Wyler advice on how to raise money for his company, OneWeb. There was also a meeting where Wyler, Epstein, and Richard Branson were present on Branson's island. Epstein brought three people who had been hurt by him to this meeting.

Awards and recognition

Greg Wyler received several important awards for his work. In 2015, he was given the Arthur C. Clarke award for Innovation and the 2B AHEAD Innovators Award. In 2017, he was named the Top Rising Star in Wireless by Fierce Wireless and also called The Most Powerful Person in Telecommunications. In 2018, he was honored by being inducted into the French Legion of Honour.
