Illustration of a trilobite, an ancient sea creature from Earth's past.

Grinnellaspis is an extinct group of ancient sea creatures called trilobites. Trilobites were part of a large class of marine arthropods that lived in the oceans millions of years ago. They had hard shells and unique body shapes that help scientists learn about life from long ago.

Grinnellaspis lived during the early Arenig stage of the Ordovician Period. This time in Earth's history happened around 478 to 471 million years ago. Many interesting fossils from this period help us understand how life has changed over millions of years.
