Guo Yue (table tennis)

Guo Yue (simplified Chinese: 郭跃; traditional Chinese: 郭躍; pinyin: Guō Yuè) was born on July 17, 1988, in Anshan, Liaoning. She is a Chinese table tennis player who became the 2007 women's world champion.

Guo Yue was once a key member of the Chinese National Table Tennis Team. However, she faced some challenges and was removed from the team in 2015. After this, she chose to focus on her studies and began learning about finance at Tsinghua University.

Career

Guo Yue was a left-handed table tennis player from Liaoning, China. She started as a player who attacks with a shakehand grip. Her first partner in doubles was Niu Jianfeng from Hebei, and later her partner and roommate was Li Xiaoxia.

After some losses in international games, Guo took a break to rest and reset her mind. She came back at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, where she won gold medals in singles, doubles, and the team event. In 2007, she did very well in several international tournaments. She won the women’s singles title at the 2007 World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, beating Li Xiaoxia in the final. She also won a mixed doubles title with Wang Liqin.

Controversy

Guo Yue faced some problems in 2010 when people said she showed "poor behaviour" and didn’t seem very interested in playing table tennis. There were stories about her missing a meeting, which caused issues with another top player. After the London 2012 Olympics, she played for a team in her home province. In 2015, she was no longer part of the National Team and began studying finance at Tsinghua University.

Achievements

Guo Yue achieved many impressive results in her table tennis career. She won the Japan East Asian Junior Championship in 1999 and became the runner-up in the Asian Cup in 2000. She reached the finals of the ITTF Pro Tour Grand Finals in 2002 and earned several medals at the Asian Championships and World Championships over the years.

She won gold medals at the 2004 Athens Olympics in women's doubles and at the 2006 Asian Games in women's team, singles, and doubles. Guo Yue became the world champion in women's singles at the 2007 World Table Tennis Championship and won a bronze medal in women's singles at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
