Hartenstein is a town located in the Zwickau district, in Saxony, Germany. It lies on the river Zwickauer Mulde, about 14 kilometers southeast of the city of Zwickau.

For many years, from 1406 until 1945, the area known as the county of Hartenstein was owned by the House of Schönburg. The town is also home to interesting historical sites, such as Hartenstein Castle and Stein Castle.

Paul Fleming

Johann Heinrich von Lindenau was born in 1586 at the castle Hartenstein and passed away in 1615 in Börnichen b. Oederan. He owned a manor.

Paul Fleming (poet), who lived from 1609 to 1640, was both a physician and a writer known for his work during the Baroque period.

Magnus Meischner, living from 1821 to 1892, was a jurist and politician who served in the Parliament of the Kingdom of Saxony.

Albrecht Neubert, who lived from 1930 to 2017, was a scholar known for his work in translation studies.
