Herald is a small place in Sacramento County, California. It sits at an elevation of 79 feet and is located east of the city of Galt along State Route 104. The ZIP Code for Herald is 95638, and the area code is 209. In 2020, the population of Herald was counted as 1,160 people.

One important feature of Herald is the site where the Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station once stood. This large power station is no longer in use, but its old cooling towers are still standing and are the tallest buildings in California's Central Valley. Today, the same site has a newer gas-powered plant and a solar power installation.

Nearby, there is a park called Rancho Seco Recreational Park. This park has a lake that was originally made to provide extra water if it was ever needed for the old power plant. Now, the lake is a place for people to enjoy recreation.
