The Hofgarten (Court Garden) is a beautiful garden in the center of Munich, Germany. It is situated between the grand Residenz and the famous Englischer Garten. This peaceful spot is a lovely place for people to relax and enjoy nature right in the heart of the city. The garden has a rich history and offers a calm escape from the busy streets around it.

History

The Hofgarten was built between 1613 and 1617 by Maximilian I, Elector of Bavaria in the style of an Italian Renaissance garden. In the middle of the garden stands a beautiful pavilion for the goddess Diana, created in 1615. On top of the Diana pavilion is a copy of a statue of Bavaria, made in 1623. The original statue is kept inside the Residenz.

The Hofgarten is a very popular spot, shown here on the first sunny weekend in spring.

After World War II, the garden was damaged but was rebuilt. Today, the Hofgarten is open to everyone and is a favorite spot for both locals and visitors. The closest subway stop is Odeonsplatz, just west of the garden.
