Indonesia at the 2008 Summer Olympics

Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience

Indonesia took part in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China, from August 8 to August 24, 2008. The Olympics is a big event where athletes from many countries come together to compete in many sports. In these games, twenty-two athletes from Indonesia had earned their spots by doing well in qualifying events. In addition, three more athletes were allowed to join through something called a wildcard entry, which gives a chance to athletes who might not have qualified through the usual way. This was an important moment for Indonesia, as it showed the country's support for its athletes and their hard work.

Indonesia sent archers to the 2008 Summer Olympics for the ninth time, hoping to win the country's first gold medal in archery and its first archery medal of any kind since winning silver in 1988. Rina Dewi Puspitasari competed for Indonesia in women's individual archery. She was born in Bojonegoro Regency on the island of Java, near the city of Surabaya. This was her second Olympics, having first competed in 2004 at age 18. In Beijing, she finished in 46th place. During the first round on August 9, she shot against 63 other athletes. She scored 620 points overall. On August 11, she faced an archer from Russia, Miroslava Dagbaeva. They both scored 106 points, but Dagbaeva won the tiebreaker, so Puspitasari did not move on to later rounds.
