Ionian Revolt

The Ionian Revolt was a big fight that happened a long time ago between some Greek areas and the Persian Empire. It started in 499 BC when the Greek cities in a place called Asia Minor were unhappy with the rulers that Persia had put in charge. These rulers were called tyrants, and they were not very fair to the people.
One of these tyrants, a man named Aristagoras from a city called Miletus, tried to attack another island called Naxos with help from a Persian leader. The attack failed, so Aristagoras decided to lead all the Greek cities in that area to rebel against Persia instead.
The rebels got help from two important Greek cities, Athens and Eretria. They went to a city called Sardis, which was an important Persian town, and burned it down. But later, the Persians fought back and won a big battle. The fighting went back and forth for a few years, but in 494 BC, the Persians won a very important sea battle and captured Miletus. After that, the rebellion ended, and the Persians took control again.
This revolt was important because it was the first big war between the Greeks and the Persians. It also made the Persian king, Darius, very angry at Athens and Eretria for helping the rebels. Because of this, he decided to try and conquer all of Greece, which led to more wars later on.
