Jake Wilson (born 1977) is an American politician. He became the 37th mayor of Somerville, Massachusetts on January 2, 2026. Before becoming mayor, Wilson was an at-large member of the Somerville City Council. He served on the council from January 2022 until he became mayor in January 2026.

Early life and education

Jake Wilson was born in the Twin Cities. When he was two years old, his family moved to a farm in Iowa. He later went to the University of Pennsylvania and got a degree called a B.A. in English in 1999.

Career

Jake Wilson worked in technology consulting and advisory services from 1997 to 2001, and then as a journalist from 2001 to 2006. In 2018, he became president of Somerville Youth Soccer, a role he held until 2021. Before that, he was the communications director and also coached for the organization.

In 2021, after some city council members retired, Wilson ran for an at-large seat on the Somerville City Council and won with 7,067 votes. He was reelected in 2023. In December 2024, he announced he would run for mayor, challenging the current mayor, Katjana Ballantyne. Ballantyne did not continue, and Wilson won the election in November 2025. He became the mayor of Somerville on January 2, 2026.

Personal life

Jake Wilson married his wife in 2002. They have two children and live in the Winter Hill neighborhood of Somerville.
