KIPP San Jose Collegiate

KIPP San Jose Collegiate is a high school in San Jose, California, part of the KIPP chain. It is in the East Side Union High School District and was founded in 2008 by Melissa Gonzales, who was one of the original teachers at KIPP Heartwood Academy, a middle school in East San Jose.
The school opened in August 2008 and has grown to serve many students. As of the 2016β2017 school year, there were 499 students, with most being Latino, some Asian/Pacific Islander, and a few African American. Many students come from families that face economic challenges, and some are still learning English well.
KIPP San Jose Collegiate has done very well on state tests, even when other charter schools had lower results. In 2015, it was among the top 2% of high schools in the United States for giving challenging tests to students, according to the Washington Post. Later, in 2017, it was ranked 23rd in the whole country by _U.S. News & World Report. The schoolβs sports teams are called the Wolfpack.
