Kasarani

Kasarani is a busy neighborhood in the northeast part of Nairobi. It is both a place where people live, work, and play, and also the name of one of the city's most populated areas, called a sub-county. This area includes many smaller neighborhoods all around the northeastern part of Nairobi.

The Kasarani neighborhood is about 11 kilometers or 7 miles northeast of Nairobi's main business area. You can find it off a major road called Thika Road. It is a lively part of the city with many people and activities.

Location

The Kasarani neighbourhood is located along Thika Road, about 12 kilometres northeast of Nairobi's central business district.

The larger Kasarani area includes several other suburbs and used to be part of Kasarani Division before 2013. Some areas in Roysambu, Ruaraka, part of Kasarani, and part of Emabakasi North are all within the Kasarani Sub-county of Nairobi.

Naming

The name Kasarani is thought to come from a river that runs through the area. In the Kikuyu language, this river is called the "Gathara-ini" River.

Sports

Kasarani is home to the Moi International Sports Centre, also called Kasarani Stadium, named after a former president. This big sports area has a stadium, a gym, a swimming pool, and a hotel. The stadium is where the Harambee Stars team plays international matches, and it is also where Mathare United and Tusker F.C. teams play. These teams are part of the Kenyan Premier League.

The indoor arena in Kasarani is used for volleyball and is where the Kenya women's national volleyball team plays their home games.

Kasarani has many important places, including the USIU Africa and Pan African Christian University campuses. There are also schools like Kasarani Technical and Vocational College, Jalyn Junior Academy, and ST Agnes Learning Centre. You can find hotels such as Sport view Hotel and Safari Park Hotel. Shopping areas like Garden City and Thika Road malls are located near the Thika Road highway. Another notable building is the Jewel Complex.

Kasarani has several shopping malls like Mountain Mall, Thika Road Mall, and Garden City. An area called Kasarani Portal lists local businesses and is found in Seasons Estate. You can also find an Equity Bank branch and a place called Modesto Kitchen & bar there.
