Life and career
Laura Pausini was born in Faenza, in the Province of Ravenna, to Fabrizio Pausini and Gianna Ballardini. She grew up in Solarolo, a small town in the same region. Her father, a former pianist, encouraged her to start performing as a singer. Her first live performance was in 1985, when she sang with her father in a restaurant in Bologna. She continued to perform alongside him and also started singing in a church choir.
In 1993, Pausini won the newcomer artists' section of the 43rd Sanremo Music Festival with the song "La solitudine," which became a big hit. Her self-titled debut album was released in Italy in April 1993 and later became an international success, selling two million copies worldwide. The album included hits like "Non c'è" and "Perché non torna più."
Artistry
Laura Pausini is known for her beautiful and strong voice, often compared to other famous singers. Early in her career, she was seen as a young star singing about love, but some people thought her songs were too sad. Over time, critics began to appreciate her simple style and powerful voice.
Though she is mostly a pop singer, her music has included many different styles, like Latin, soul, and rock. She has also written many of her own songs and helped produce her albums.
Personal life
Laura Pausini moved to Milan in 1995 with her partner, who was also her manager and producer. They broke up in 2002, and she later started a relationship with another manager.
Since 2005, she has been with a musician named Paolo Carta. They had a daughter in 2013 and got married in 2023 after being together for many years.
Laura says she believes in God and respects the Church, but she has shared her thoughts about some rules she feels need to change.
Honours
Laura Pausini was given a very special award in Italy called the Commander Order of Merit of the Italian Republic. This is one of the most important awards a person can receive in Italy. She received it from the president, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, on February 6, 2006.
