Liam Coen

Liam Patrick Coen (born November 8, 1985) is an American professional football coach. He is currently the head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the National Football League (NFL).

Before becoming the head coach, Coen worked as the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 2024 season. He also held the same position for the Los Angeles Rams in 2022.

Coen has experience coaching at several universities, including the University of Kentucky, University of Maine, UMass, University of Rhode Island, and Brown University. His work has helped shape the strategies and performances of many football teams.

Early life and playing career

Liam Coen was born on November 8, 1985, in Warwick, Rhode Island and grew up in South Kingstown. He played football for his father, Tim, at La Salle Academy in Providence. Later, he played as a quarterback at UMass from 2004 to 2008, wearing the number 12 in honor of his favorite athlete, Tom Brady. During his time at UMass, he shared a room with Victor Cruz, who later became a professional football player.

Coen set several passing records during his time at UMass and was inducted into the UMass Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022. After college, he played professional football for two seasons. In 2009, he joined the Manchester Wolves as a backup quarterback, and in 2010, he was a backup for the Alabama Vipers in the Arena Football League.

Coaching career

Liam Coen began his coaching career after his playing days ended. He worked as a quarterbacks coach at Brown in 2010 and from 2012 to 2013. In 2011, he was the pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Rhode Island.

Coen then moved to UMass in 2014 as their pass game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He later became the offensive coordinator at Maine in 2016, using ideas he learned at UMass from Mark Whipple. He joined the Los Angeles Rams as assistant wide receivers coach in 2018 and later became assistant quarterbacks coach.

In 2020, Coen became the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Kentucky. He helped the team achieve a 10–3 record, including a win in the 2022 Citrus Bowl. He returned to the Los Angeles Rams in 2022 as their offensive coordinator.

Coen went back to Kentucky in 2023, again as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. In 2024, he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their offensive coordinator, helping them finish with a 10–7 record.

In 2025, Coen became the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his first season, the team finished first in the AFC South with a 13–4 record. They played in the Wild Card Round against the Buffalo Bills but lost the game.
