List of CJK fonts

Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience

A font sample showing ancient Chinese philosophical texts, including lines from the Analects and Tao Te Ching.

This is a list of important CJK fonts (computer fonts that include many Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters). These fonts are grouped by their style, such as those with small lines at the ends of letters, those without, and those that look like handwriting. The fonts are also sorted by the writing systems they support.

They can support Chinese characters, which may also include special symbols called bopomofo. Chinese characters can be further divided into Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, with Traditional Chinese having different standards for general use, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

Other writing systems include Japanese with kanji, hiragana, and katakana, Korean with Hangul and hanja, and even older scripts like Vietnamese Nôm and Zhuang Sawndip. There are also fonts designed to work with many characters across all these systems, called Pan-Unicode and Pan-CJK fonts.

Legends

Here are some symbols you might see next to font names:

  • [F] means the font is free and open-source software. This means you can use it without paying and can share it with others.
  • [F] means it was once free and open-source but had some legal problems.
  • [FP] means the font is free to use for yourself, but if you want to use it for business, you need to pay for a license.
  • [P] means the font is not free and you need to pay for a license to use it, even just for yourself.

Ming (Song)

See also: Ming (typefaces)
