As of the 2026 Michelin Guide, there are 3 restaurants in Abu Dhabi with a Michelin star rating. The Michelin Guides have been published by the French tyre company Michelin since 1900. They were created to help drivers with travel information, including suggestions for good places to eat.
In the 1920s, Michelin started sending secret inspectors to restaurants. These inspectors visit many times and judge the food on five important points: the quality of ingredients, skill in cooking, the chef's special touch, balance of flavors, and consistency. If the inspectors agree, a restaurant may earn one, two, or three stars. One star means the food is very good and worth stopping for. Two stars mean the cooking is excellent and worth a special trip. Three stars mean the food is amazing and worth traveling far to taste.
The Michelin Guide for Abu Dhabi began in November 2022, working with Abu Dhabi’s tourism group, Visit Abu Dhabi. It was the second guide in the United Arab Emirates, after a guide for Dubai that started earlier that same year. Both guides are seen as important for growing the culture and tourism of these places.
