List of Pakistani inventions and discoveries
Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience
This article lists important inventions and discoveries made by scientists from Pakistan. These scientists worked both in Pakistan and in other countries. The list starts from 1947, the year Pakistan became an independent country. It shows how Pakistani people have contributed to many fields, such as science, technology, and medicine, making the world a better place.
Chemistry
Pakistani scientists have made important contributions to chemistry. One notable achievement was by Naveed Zaidi, an organic chemist and polymer scientist. He developed the world's first workable plastic magnet that works at room temperature. This invention shows how chemistry can create new materials with special properties.
Physics
Pakistani scientist Abdus Salam made important discoveries in physics. He helped find the electroweak interaction with two American scientists, Sheldon Glashow and Steven Weinberg. For this work, they won the Nobel Prize in Physics.
Abdus Salam and Steven Weinberg also predicted a tiny particle called the Higgs boson, which helps give other particles their mass. They, along with Sheldon Glashow, helped develop the Standard Model of how tiny particles behave.
Nuclear energy
A Pakistani nuclear engineer named Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmood created a special tool in 1972 to find leaks in heavy water used in nuclear power plants. This tool, called the SBM probe, is still used in many nuclear power plants today.
Medicine
Two important medical tools were created by people from Pakistan. The Ommaya reservoir is a special system that helps doctors give medicines, like chemotherapy, directly to the fluid around the brain. This was made by Ayub K. Ommaya, a Pakistani brain surgeon. Another tool, made by Faisal Kashif, is a non-invasive way to check the pressure inside the head, which is important for patients with brain problems.
Computing
In 1986, two brothers named Farooq Alvi created one of the first computer viruses called (c)Brain in Lahore, Pakistan. They made it to stop people from copying their software without permission.
Another important invention is the Neurochip, created by Naweed Syed, a inventor from Pakistan who lives in Canada.
Music
The Sagar veena is a special string instrument made for classical music. It was created in Pakistan over the past 40 years by Raza Kazim at the Sanjannagar Institute in Lahore.
Economics
The Human Development Index was created by Pakistani economist Mahbub ul Haq in 1990. Its goal was to change development economics from focusing on money to focusing on helping people.
