The American Basketball Association (2000–present) has had many teams since it began. Some of these teams are no longer part of the league. They either stopped playing or moved to other basketball leagues. This list shows those teams that are now gone or have left the ABA.

It is important not to confuse these teams with the older teams from the first American Basketball Association, which was a different league. The teams here are only from the ABA that started in the year 2000 and continues today.

The list includes teams from many different places, organized from A to Z. Each team had its own story, and learning about them helps us understand the history of basketball in the United States.

The American Basketball Association (ABA) had many teams from different places. Some of these teams are from places like Australia and Mexico, and others have fun names like the Alaska Stars or the Anaheim Roadrunners. A few teams, such as the Arkansas RimRockers, moved to play in another league called the NBA Development League. Others, like the Atlanta Vision, also started in the ABA before moving on.

Some teams that used to play in the American Basketball Association include the East Bay Pit Bulls, East Carolina Trojans, and East Kentucky Energy. Others were the East Kentucky Miners, East Point Jaguars, Edmonton Cheetahs, Electric City Lions (who later became the Charleston City Lions), Erie Elite, Everett Evolution, Everett Longshoremen, and Everett Revolution.

The following teams were part of the American Basketball Association but are no longer in the league. They include teams like Fairfield Funky Fresh, Flint Fire, and Flint-Vehicle City Chargers.

Other teams listed are Florida All-Stars, Florida Makos, and Florida Native Pride. The Florida Pit Bulls joined the Continental Basketball Association and then moved to become the East Kentucky Miners before returning to the ABA. There were also teams such as Florida Thundercats, Fort Smith Firebirds, and Fort Worth Energy. In Fresno, teams like the Fresno Farmdogs and Fresno Griffins played, and the Fresno Heatwave moved to become the Sacramento Heatwave and later the California Heatwave. The American Basketball Association (2000–present) had several teams that are no longer part of the league. Some of these teams joined other basketball leagues. For example, the Halifax Rainmen joined the Premier Basketball League and later the National Basketball League of Canada. The Heartland Prowl moved to the Continental Basketball League and then to the Florida Basketball Association.

Some teams that used to play in the American Basketball Association include the Ill City Beast, Illinois BallDogz, and Indiana Legends. Others, like the Indiana Alley Cats and Indiana Diesels, moved to different leagues such as the Continental Basketball Association and the Premier Basketball League. There were also teams like the Indiana State Warriors, Indianapolis Drive, and Inglewood Cobras, along with teams that changed names, such as the Inland Empire Invaders becoming the Yuma Invaders.

For example, the Manchester Millrats joined the Premier Basketball League and later the National Basketball League of Canada, becoming the Saint John Mill Rats. The Maryland Nighthawks also moved to the Premier Basketball League and then to the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League, where they became the Washington GreenHawks. Other teams like the Mayas-USA, Memphis Dons, and Memphis Houn'Dawgs were part of the ABA but are no longer active in the league.

The American Basketball Association once had many teams with fun names. Some of these teams were the Oakland Bayhawks, which later became the Oakland TownHawks, and the Oceanside A-Team. Others included the Ohio Aviators, the Oklahoma Cavalry (which later joined other leagues), and the Oklahoma City Ballhawgs, which became the Louisiana Cajun Pelicans. There were also teams like the Oklahoma Stallions, Olympia Rise, and Ontario Red Wolves.

Additional teams in this list are the Ontario Warriors, Orange County Buzz, Orange County Gladiators, Orlando Kings, Orlando Waves, Outtatowners of New York City, and the Owensboro Colonels. Some teams changed names over time, such as the Orange County Crush, which became the Orange County Buzz, then the Carson Buzz, and finally the Maywood Buzz.

Some teams that used to play in the American Basketball Association but are no longer part of it include the Universal City Seraphim, Utah Avalanche, Utah Snowbears, and Utah Stars. These teams either stopped playing or moved to different leagues.

Some teams that used to play in the American Basketball Association include the Valdosta Warriors, Valley Legends, Vehicle City Chargers, and Veneno de Monterrey.

Other teams such as the Vancouver Balloholics became independent teams. The Vancouver Dragons joined another league called the MLBA but came back to the ABA in 2019, only to stop playing after that season. The Vancouver Explorers never actually played any games. Lastly, the Vermont Frost Heaves left to join the Premier Basketball League.
