Other important figures include Coeus, a Titan whose name means “questioning,” and Metis, known for wisdom and cleverness. Mnemosyne is the Titan of memory, helping people remember important things. Phoebe is also respected for her intellect.

In Norse mythology, several gods and goddesses are known for their wisdom and knowledge.

  • Mimir is the god of wisdom.
  • Gefjon is a goddess linked to plowing, knowing what will happen in the future, and purity.
  • Odin is a god who is always seeking more knowledge and is connected to the runes.
  • Frigg is said to know the future but chooses not to share it. Three other goddesses may represent parts of her.
  • Sága is a goddess of wisdom.
  • Snotra is a goddess associated with wisdom.
  • Vör is another goddess linked to wisdom.

Many smaller characters in Norse stories are also described as very wise, even if they don’t always show it:

  • Dwarfs, especially Alviss, whose name means "all-wise". Thor stops him from marrying his daughter by testing his knowledge in a contest that goes on all night. Alviss turns to stone when the sun rises.
  • Elfs might also be wise.
  • Heimdallr
  • Kvasir
  • Tyr
  • Utgard-Loki is the only giant known to outsmart the gods and escape safely.
  • Vafthrudnir is a very wise giant whom Odin challenges to a contest of knowledge.
  • The Vanir group of gods are generally seen as wise.

Iranian mythology

Iranian mythology includes several gods and goddesses linked to wisdom and knowledge. Anahita is a goddess known for wisdom. Ahura Mazda is a Zoroastrian god of light, truth, and perfect wisdom. Chista is another goddess of wisdom and knowledge who guides people toward a good life and the afterlife.

Polynesian mythology

In Polynesian mythology, there are gods linked to knowledge and wisdom. One example is Anulap, who is known as the god of magic and knowledge. Another figure is Eijebong, also connected to these ideas.

Roman mythology

In Roman mythology, there are several gods and goddesses linked to knowledge and wisdom. Egeria is a water nymph who shares wisdom and predictions if you offer water or milk at her sacred grove.
