Margie Goldstein-Engle

Margie Goldstein-Engle, born on March 31, 1958, is an American show jumping equestrian. She has achieved great success in her sport, earning recognition for her skills and dedication.

Early and personal life

Margie Goldstein-Engle was born in Miami, Florida to Mona, a school principal and teacher, and Irvin Goldstein, an accountant. She grew up in South Miami with two older brothers and became passionate about horses in third grade.

At age nine, she worked at horse barns and dog kennels to pay for riding lessons. Though she had less money than other riders, she still pursued her dream. She went to South Miami High School, North Miami Beach High School, and later graduated from Florida International University with top grades in business education. She married horse veterinarian Steve Engle in 1995.

Equestrian career

Margie Goldstein-Engle achieved great success in equestrian sports. She won 6 World Cups and 20 Nations Cups between 1984 and 2005. In 1987, she set a world-record-high jump of 7 feet 8 3⁄4 inches. Despite many injuries from falls during horse shows, she kept coming back to compete.

She won medals at the Pan American Games and competed in the Olympics. She was named Rider of the Year ten times by the American Grandprix Association. Her career earnings from show jumping were over $4 million, and she had more than 195 Grand Prix victories.

Halls of Fame

In 2001, she was honored by the U.S. Jewish Sports Hall of Fame, and in 2009 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. On 25 March 2021, she was inducted into the US Show Jumping Hall of Fame.
