Marshall Wayne was an American diver who competed in the 1936 Summer Olympics. He was born on May 25, 1912, and passed away on June 16, 1999. Wayne's participation in the Olympics showcased his diving skills on an international stage, making him a notable figure in the sport during his time. His dedication and performance contributed to the history of Olympic diving.

1936 Summer Olympics

In the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Marshall Wayne won a gold medal in the 10 meter platform diving competition and a silver medal in the 3 meter springboard event. After the Olympics, he performed in shows with famous swimmers and divers. Later, he joined the Army Air Corp and served during the war.

Personal life

Marshall Wayne was born into a Vaudeville family that traveled along the east coast of the United States. He started performing when he was very young and learned tumbling from acrobats before he began diving. As a teenager at Miami High, he secretly practiced diving at the Venetian pool in Coral Gables, which started his diving career.

By the time he was 18, Marshall was diving and performing at the Biltmore Hotel on Miami Beach, entertaining guests. He won several AAU diving awards, including first place in the 1934 and 1936 AAU Championships. He also spent two years attending the University of Miami. Later, he was honored by being inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1982 and the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in 1993.
