Massimo "Bullo" Bulleri (born 10 September 1977) is an Italian professional basketball coach and a former player. During his time as a player, he stood 1.88 metres tall and played as both a point guard and a shooting guard. Today, he serves as the head coach for the team Dinamo Sassari in the top Italian league, known as the Lega Basket Serie A. Bulleri's journey from player to coach shows his deep connection to the sport and his role in guiding new players.
Professional playing career
Massimo Bulleri had a successful basketball career. He won the FIBA Saporta Cup championship in the 1998–99 season, along with two Italian League championships in 2002 and 2003. He also claimed four Italian Cup titles in 2000, 2003, 2004, and 2005, and two Italian Super Cup titles in 2001 and 2002. Bulleri was named the Italian League's MVP in 2003 and 2005, and also won MVP for the Italian Cup in 2005.
He stopped playing professional basketball in 2017.
National team playing career
Massimo Bulleri played for the senior men's Italian national basketball team. He helped the team win a bronze medal at the 2003 EuroBasket and another bronze at the 2005 EuroBasket. He also played in the 2007 EuroBasket. At the 2004 Athens Summer Olympic Games, he won a silver medal with the Italian team.
Coaching career
After stopping his career as a basketball player, Bulleri started working as a basketball coach. In 2017, he joined a team in the Italian League, Varese, as an assistant coach.
Later, on September 8, 2020, he became the head coach for Pallacanestro Varese for the 2020–21 season. In January 2025, Bulleri took over as the head coach for Dinamo Sassari in the top Italian league, the Lega Basket Serie A, replacing Nenad Marković.
Honors and awards as a player
Massimo Bulleri earned many awards during his basketball career. He won the FIBA Saporta Cup in 1999 and the Italian Cup four times between 2000 and 2005. He was also a two-time winner of the Italian Supercup and the Italian League, and he was chosen as an Italian League All-Star three times.
Bulleri helped the Italian national team win bronze medals at the 2001 Mediterranean Games and the 2003 EuroBasket, as well as a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games. He was also named the Italian League MVP twice and the Italian Cup MVP once. In 2004, he received a special honor from the President of Italy.
