Matti Tapio Poikala, born on 26 July 1935, was a skilled Swedish wrestler. He was born in Finland and later moved to Sweden in 1959, where he began his wrestling career.

Poikala took part in the 1964 Summer Olympics in the freestyle lightweight division, but he was eliminated after his second match. Despite this, he went on to achieve great success in other competitions. He won a silver medal at the 1968 European Championships and a bronze medal at the 1969 world championships in Greco-Roman wrestling. In the same year, he also placed fourth in the 74 kg freestyle contest.
