A fossilized ammonite called Metoicoceras geslinianum, showing scientists how ancient sea creatures looked millions of years ago.

Metoicoceras was an ancient group of sea creatures that lived a very long time ago. It belonged to a special family of animals called ammonites, which were similar to modern squid and octopus but had spiral shells. These fascinating animals existed during a time known as the Cenomanian, which was part of the Late Cretaceous period, many millions of years before humans appeared on Earth. Studying Metoicoceras helps scientists understand more about the history of life in the oceans and how different species have changed over time.
