Moers is a German city located on the western bank of the Rhine River, close to the city of Duisburg. It is part of the district known as Wesel. The city has a rich history and is known for its beautiful surroundings and cultural heritage. People have lived in the area for many centuries, and Moers continues to be an important place in the region today.
History
Moers was first known in the year 1186 as an independent area within the Holy Roman Empire. During a big war called the Eighty Years' War, soldiers from Spain and the Netherlands took control of it at different times.
Later, after a leader named William III of Orange died in 1702, Moers became part of Prussia. Then, in 1795, France took it over. After a big meeting in 1815, it went back to Prussia and later became part of the German Empire in 1871. During World War II, a coal mine in Moers that made oil was targeted and partly taken apart after the war.
