Mont Kiara, often called MK, is an affluent suburb located in the northwest part of downtown Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It falls within the area known as Segambut. The area mainly features tall residential buildings and office spaces, most of which were built by UEM Sunrise Berhad, a famous property company from the UEM Group.

Mont Kiara sits in the middle of the Klang Valley, right between Kepong and the city center of Kuala Lumpur. It is close to Sri Hartamas to the south and KL Metropolis to the east. Many people from other countries, known as expats, live there.

Even though a nearby area is called "North Kiara" because it is north of Mont Kiara, developers have used this name for many years to connect their building projects to the popular suburb.

History

Mont Kiara started as a rubber farm. In the 1990s, a company called Sunrise Berhad began building homes there. They bought 12 pieces of land and renamed the area Mont Kiara.

After successful projects like Mont Kiara Pines and Mont Kiara Palma in 1993 and 1994, other builders joined in, helping the area grow. Mont Kiara is special because its name includes a French word: "mont" means "mountain," referring to the nearby Bukit Kiara.
