The Nablus Governorate (Arabic: محافظة نابلس, romanized: Muḥāfaẓat Nāblus) is an administrative district of Palestine located in the Central Highlands of the West Bank, about 53 kilometers north of Jerusalem. It covers the area around the city of Nablus, which is the main city and serves as the center of the governorate.
The governor of this district is Mahmoud Aloul. Nablus Governorate is important because it includes many historical sites, beautiful landscapes, and vibrant communities that tell the story of the region's long and rich history.
History
During the time of the Ottoman period, the area that later became the Nablus Governorate was part of Jabal Nablus. The people in the city of Nablus and the areas around it had strong connections through trade, society, and politics. With help from rural trading partners, leaders in the city created control over important goods, changing the local economy to focus on selling products like cash crops and finished goods to places far away.
In the early months of the First Intifada, many people in the Nablus Governorate faced difficult times due to actions by the Israeli army. This area saw more challenges than other parts of the West Bank during that time.
