The National Olympic Sports Centre (Chinese: 国家奥林匹克体育中心; pinyin: Guójiā Àolínpǐkè Tǐyù Zhōngxīn) or Olympic Sports Center Stadium (simplified Chinese: 奥体中心体育场; traditional Chinese: 奧體中心體育場; pinyin: Àotǐ Zhōngxīn Tǐyùchǎng) is a big multi-purpose stadium located in Chaoyang District, Beijing, China. Today, it is mainly used for soccer matches. It was first built in 1986 to host the 1990 Asian Games. The centre includes the main stadium, an indoor arena, a hockey field, and a natatorium.
The stadium was updated for the 2008 Summer Olympics, where it hosted soccer games and parts of the modern pentathlon events. During the Olympics, the soccer field was changed into a special area for horse riding. The updates also added beautiful rotating walkways around the stadium.
After the updates, the stadium became much bigger. Its floor space grew from 20,000 square meters to 34,975 square meters. The number of people it can hold also doubled, from about 18,000 to 36,228.
