Neos Kosmos is a neighborhood in downtown Athens, Greece. Its name means "New World" in Greek. It is one of the many areas that make up the busy city center of Athens, full of history and culture. History
In ancient times, the area of Neos Kosmos might have been where a special place for exercise called Cynosarges was located.
Geography
Neos Kosmos is a neighborhood just south of the historic center of Athens, Greece. One of the main roads there is Andrea Syngrou Avenue.
Climate
Neos Kosmos has a hot semi-arid climate, which means it is very warm most of the year. It has mild winters and very hot summers. This area is the warmest part of downtown Athens, with an average yearly temperature of 20.2°C. On August 3, 2021, the temperature reached 42.8°C, and in July 2024, there were 11 days where the temperature stayed above 30.0°C even at night.
Public Transportation
Neos Kosmos has three subway stations: Syngrou–Fix, Neos Kosmos, and Agios Ioannis. These stations are part of the Athens Metro.
The area is also served by the Athens Tram.
Sports
Thriamvos Athens is a sports club that started in 1930 and is located in Neos Kosmos. The club has won a big competition in women's basketball and also plays sports like football, basketball, and volleyball.
