New Democrat Coalition

Adapted from Wikipedia · Discoverer experience

The New Democrat Coalition is a group of members in the House of Representatives of the United States Congress. It is made up of Democrats, mostly liberals and centrists, who support pro-business ideas and take a liberal-to-moderate view on money-related issues. Most members also share socially liberal beliefs.

The group is often seen as being in the middle to center-left of the political spectrum.

When the 119th Congress began on January 3, 2025, the New Democrat Coalition had 110 members, including one who could not vote. Out of these, 30 were also part of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and 6 were also in the Blue Dog Coalition. This made the New Democrat Coalition the largest group of House Democratic ideological caucus, bigger than the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Overview

The New Democrat Coalition is a group of members in the House of Representatives. It was started in 1997 by Representatives Cal Dooley, Jim Moran, and Tim Roemer.

This group includes Democrats who have different views but share some common ideas. They support policies that help businesses and are careful with money. They also believe in allowing people from other countries to come to the United States and support new technology. The group is known for having moderate and liberal views on social issues.

Policy positions

The New Democrat Coalition works to bring different political groups together to find solutions. They focus on important issues like taking action on climate change, moving toward sustainable energy, making healthcare more accessible, and keeping U.S. national security strong.

They support a strong economy by making trade easier and cheaper, especially with countries like the United Kingdom, Kenya, and Taiwan. They also want to lower energy prices and support clean energy projects. For healthcare, they aim to help more people sign up for affordable health plans.

The group also values updating the U.S. Military and keeping the country safe online through better cybersecurity. They believe in working with other countries to solve problems like climate change and support strong relationships with places like Israel and Ukraine.
