Niger at the 2008 Summer Olympics

Niger sent five athletes to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. This was their second largest group of athletes ever, only smaller than the six they sent in 1988. They also took part in the same number of sports as they did in 2004, which was three.

This was Niger's 10th time joining the Olympic Games. Their only athlete to ever win a medal was Issaka Dabore, who competed in boxing and won a medal at the 1972 Olympics.

Delegation

Niger sent five athletes to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. This was their second largest group ever. The athletes competed in three different sports. Lailatou Amadou Lele competed in Taekwondo, Mohamed Lamine Alhousseini Alhassan in Men's 50 metre freestyle, and Mariama Souley Bana in Women's 50 metre freestyle. Two other athletes took part in athletics in the 400 metres and 1500 metres races. The team also included Abdramane Seydou, the Minister of Sport, some other officials, a journalist, and members of the Niger Olympic Committee.

Niger sent athletes to compete in track and field events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.

Harouna Garba represented Niger in the men's 400 meters hurdles. He was 22 years old at the time. In his heat, he finished last out of seven runners. He did not move on to the next rounds.

Rachidatou Seini Maikido was Niger's only female track athlete, competing in the women's 400 meters races. She was 19 years old. She also finished last in her heat and did not advance to later rounds.

Swimming

Mohamed Alhousseini Alhassan was Niger's only male swimmer at the Beijing Olympics. He competed in the men's 50 meters freestyle. Alhousseini was 30 years old at the time and had not competed in any Olympic games before. His race took place on August 14, and he finished in fourth place in his heat with a time of 30.90 seconds. He did not move on to later rounds.

Mariama Souley Bana was Niger's only female swimmer. She raced in the women's 50 meters freestyle. Bana was 21 years old and had not competed in any Olympic games before. Her race was on August 15, and she finished last in her heat with a time of 40.83 seconds. She also did not advance to later rounds.
