Nové Mesto nad Váhom is a town located in the Trenčín Region of Slovakia. It has a rich history and is known for its beautiful setting along the Váh River. The town's name means "New Town on the Váh" in Slovak, reflecting its location and significance. Over the years, it has grown into an important community for its residents and visitors.
Geography
The town of Nové Mesto nad Váhom is located at an altitude of 189 metres (620 feet) and covers an area of 32.58 km2 (12.58 square miles). It is found at the northern edge of the Danubian Hills, near the White Carpathians, and sits along the Váh river. Nearby mountains include the White Carpathians and the Považský Inovec. The town is 27 km from Trenčín and 100 km from Bratislava. Its parts include Mnešice, Izbice, Javorinaská, Hájovky, Samoty, Luka, Centrum, Rajková, and Záhumenice.

Religion
In 2021, out of 19,644 people, many followed the Roman Catholic Church, while others had no religious affiliation. Other groups included the Evangelical Church, Greek Catholic Church, Jehovah's Witnesses, Buddhism, Eastern Orthodox Church, Islam, Seventh-day Adventist Church, Church of the Brethren, United Methodist Church, Old Catholic Church, the Jewish community, the Bahá'i Community, the New Apostolic Church, and Hinduism. Places of interest
Nové Mesto nad Váhom has many interesting places nearby to explore. You can visit Zelená voda Lakes, just 1 kilometer away, where you can enjoy watersports, windsurfing, fishing, and even camp out. There is also a famous castle called Čachtice, located 6 kilometers away, and another beautiful castle named Beckov Castle only 5 kilometers from the town.

History
The area where Nové Mesto nad Váhom stands today has been home to people since ancient times. Many items from the Stone and Bronze Ages have been found there, showing that people lived there long ago.
The town was first written about in the year 1263. At that time, King Béla IV of Hungary gave it special rights for helping during the Mongol invasions. Later, it belonged to different groups and leaders. In 1550, it became an official town. In the 1800s, many industries grew there, especially ones that worked with food from farms.
Before Czechoslovakia became its own country in 1918, Nové Mesto nad Váhom was part of Nyitra County in the Kingdom of Hungary. Between 1939 and 1945, it was part of the Slovak Republic.
Sports
The Slovak Bandy Association has organized rink bandy practice in Nové Mesto nad Váhom. This sport is played on ice and is enjoyed by many people in the area.
Monuments
Nové Mesto nad Váhom has many beautiful old buildings and places of interest. Some of these include the Fortified Roman-Renaissance-Baroque Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, the Renaissance Vicariage Palace, and the Renaissance church fortification. Other notable sites are the Renaissance-Baroque Ghillanys' Palace from the 17th century, the Renaissance Nadasdys' Palace from the 16th century, and the Protestant Church built in 1787. There are also several historic chapels and statues, like the Baroque Chapel in Hurbanova Street and the St. Florian Statue from 1762.
Transport
The town of Nové Mesto nad Váhom has many ways to get around. By train, it sits on a major railway line that runs from Bratislava to Kosice. Trains stop at the station in Nové Mesto, with fast trains to Bratislava and Kosice coming every one to two hours. There are also regional trains to nearby places like Bratislava, Žilina, and Veselí na Moravě in the Czech Republic.
You can also travel by road. The main motorway D1 connects Bratislava and Zilina and passes near the town. There are local roads to Piešťany Spa, Trenčín, and other nearby areas. Local buses in blue colors stop at many places in the town, and there are two main bus lines, line 1 and line 2, that help people get around. Blue buses also connect the town to nearby villages, and there is a bus station near the train station. Long-distance buses go to important towns in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The nearest airport is Piešťany Airport, but it doesn’t have regular flights. The closest airport with flights is Bratislava M.R. Stefanik Airport, about 100 km away. There is also a taxi stand at the railway and bus station.
Notable people
Nové Mesto nad Váhom is the hometown of many interesting people. Dominik Černý, born in 1997, is known for racewalking. Stibor of Stiboricz, who lived from around 1348 to 1414, was an important historical figure. Ľudmila Podjavorinská, a writer who lived here since 1910, was born in 1872 and passed away in 1951. Other notable individuals include Ernest Nagel, a philosopher of science, and Jela Špitková, a violinist born in 1947.
