The Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame was created on November 3, 1964, by John E. Ahern. It is a special place to honor the best athletes, teams, and people who helped sports in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. This important hall is found at the World Trade and Convention Centre in Halifax, the capital city of Nova Scotia. It shows how much the people of Nova Scotia care about sports and remembers those who made big achievements in them.
Early history
John E. Ahern received a grant to create the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame. He formed a group to pick the first people to honor. Some of the first honorees were sports stars like Aileen Meagher, Johnny Miles, Sam Langford, and George Dixon. The former Mayor of Halifax loved sports and collected many items and pictures about them. He gave all of these to the Hall of Fame, which is the biggest single gift the Hall has ever received.
